The joint

Making it whole

Whole, for FogPie, means a stranger can ask for the instrument and reach the same mind that once sat under a glass dome on Copper Wharf. It does not mean the private laboratory was dragged into the street. The website is the public plate: cream pages, brass rules, and the workshop notes of how the name was bolted to the host. The quiet room stays behind the bulkhead. You can read that it exists. You cannot rent a stool in it.

People still come the way Mira, Tomas, the Pell sisters, and Cal came: with a record they trust and a problem that has gone foggy. Companies still come the way Harrow Glassworks, Redmile, the Low Line, and St. Brigid’s clinic came: to have a stuck system explained without a hunt for someone to blame. Anyone who comes the way Vesper Dye Works came, asking for a smaller number than the truth, will find the number written larger. That policy did not soften when the instrument learned to answer over HTTPS.

The joint, as built

Whole also means the registered name and the machine are the same site. A lookup for fogpie.com should land on this WordPress, and the ranch and the gallery should keep the names they already have.

  1. The name is registered at Cloudflare and delegated to Cloudflare nameservers.
  2. WordPress is up on Mother, project /opt/fogpie, host port 8083.
  3. The Mother tunnel ingress sends fogpie.com and www.fogpie.com to http://localhost:8083.
  4. Proxied DNS points the apex and www at that same tunnel.
  5. WordPress treats those hostnames as https://fogpie.com. www redirects to the apex.

What stays separate

Kanati Ranch remains on port 8081. The gallery remains on port 8082. FogPie has its own database volume, its own containers, and its own theme. Adding this name did not move those hostnames. The fictional quiet room is a room in the story. It is not a second public site.

From the house

On the ranch LAN the origin is http://192.168.0.30:8083. From everywhere else it is https://fogpie.com. Both read the same theme and the same database. The host header decides which address WordPress prints.
